The Benefits of Winter Land Surveying
Many of our clients think of summer as the best season to conduct a land survey. While we do have longer days and better weather in the summer months, summertime isn’t the only time to perform land surveys. In fact, some other seasons can actually be better for a survey than the summer.
Keep reading to learn the benefits of winter surveying and why you should schedule your survey today.
Surveyor availability
Like many professions, surveyors have a busy season and a slow season. The slow season for many surveyors is the winter, and the summer is the busy season. While professional surveyors will do their best to accommodate a client’s needs during the summer, that can get difficult when they have a full schedule.
In the winter, surveyors have much more time to meet with clients and do their duties. If you need a survey performed ASAP, consider having it done in the winter instead of waiting until surveyors get busy once again.
Ability to make fast updates
All surveys would ideally be one-and-done jobs; however, that’s not always the case. Some surveys come back with missing or inaccurate data, which means the surveyor needs to go back out and check the land again. Additionally, a new survey needs to be conducted if utilities are added on the land or a new structure is built.
Since surveyors are slower this time of year, it’s much easier for them to make it back out to the site to update their information.
Construction headway
It’s not always possible to break ground on a new construction project in the winter, but a construction company can get the process underway in the winter by scheduling winter land surveying. By having a survey done now, construction crews can get to the site as soon as the weather allows for it in the spring.
Efficiency
Summer surveys can sometimes be difficult in the summer due to all the leaves on the trees, and the survey can even come back with inaccurate data. Since most trees shed their leaves as temperatures drop, that’s not a concern with a winter survey, so you should always consider having your survey done in the winter to get the most reliable results.
Can any survey be performed in the winter?
The benefits of winter surveying are hard to top. Fortunately, surveyors can perform any type of survey in the dead of winter, so long as the ground isn’t covered in snow.
The only thing a winter surveyor needs to look out for is the weather. If it’s too cold or if there’s freezing rain or snow in the forecast, surveying should be delayed until the outdoor conditions are a bit better for their equipment.
